Step into a realm where reality bends and colors speak in whispers. "Que Mas" invites you on an ethereal journey through the subconscious, where prismatic light fractures into stories untold and memories yet to be made.
In this groundbreaking collection, Evangelina masterfully weaves together the tangible and the imagined, creating a tapestry of experiences that questions "What more?" – the literal translation of "Que Mas." Each piece serves as a portal, connecting viewers to their own difficulties in discovering peace while simultaneously launching them into a kaleidoscopic future.
As a child I was incredibly quiet and extremely shy. We were a war family escaping El Salvador and landing in the United States in 1979. My father was a domestic abuser, and I witnessed many interactions with my father that included abuse and violence towards my mother and older siblings. I never felt safe inside my home and so my only escape was my backyard. Nature was my teacher and my best friend. I was able to hide in the branches of the large oak trees and palm trees that surrounded my house, it allowed me to escape to a dream world all my own where I felt less afraid and always envisioned a happy ending. I noticed as the seasons changed the trees always stood firm through storms and hurricanes nature particularly has a cycle of growth and nothing is ever dead something is always growing and so as I child I imagined myself as a strong oak. I used these tools of imagination to process the violence and abuse that had taken place in my life. Art became my outlet to express those feelings of rage, loss, sadness and joy. I have used painting as a form of expression since as far back as 5-years-old. Painting is a therapeutic form of self-healing. I seek and open my spirit up to the universe. Painting allows me to feel like a vessel to express what messages and truths the canvas has for me. I picture my brush as a wand and the magic just happens, I feel close to the spiritual world when I paint, the presence of infinite possibilities and my imagination just opens towards resolutions in a confusing and crazy world. I can overcome any demon, beast, or dragon in this world. I am the hero and nature is the teacher. Through these images I can leave a bit of my soul on the canvas. I hope that through my art I can express that nature is a great healer. I hope to express that like the seasons there is a season for everything, and change is always ahead. I desire to give hope to the hopeless and brokenhearted and my goal is to give inspiration to others in hopes that through the arts we can find healing and growth.
